Tasks-as-code is now GA. You can create and define your Airplane tasks entirely in code. We've also included a quick preview of environments which are coming soon.
Tasks-as-code GA
With tasks-as-code you can define your Airplane tasks entirely in code without having to use the browser. We would love to hear your feedback on this. Feel free to reach out to us if you're interested in trying it out and we can schedule a quick onboarding session.
Airplane's latest CLI release introduces the concept of a definition file for Airplane tasks. The definition file allows you to:
- Create new tasks with the CLI tool.
- Configure settings that were previously only editable via the web app (e.g., description, parameters, environment variables). Note: Currently folders and permissions are not editable via the CLI tool.
- Configure settings for tasks without script-based entry points such as REST and SQL tasks.
You can also generate a definition file for existing tasks by using the task's unique slug.

Environments beta (coming soon)
In the next couple of weeks we'll be rolling out environments as a part of Airplane's platform so you can have separate environments for staging, dev, and production, for example. Please let us know if you're interested in beta access.
